Description of Leadership Training Units
 

 

In addition to providing onsite training courses, ILDC has bundled these seminars into multi-week programs that help participants develop the skills they need to respond to the challenges facing the community, and turn them into opportunities for maturation and growth.

 

Basic Leadership Training includes:

 

1.     The Making of Compassionate Leadership

2.     Leadership for Community Empowerment

3.     Communication in Diverse Social Settings

4.     Conflict Management and the Pain of Growth

5.     Strategic Planning and Implementation

6.     The Power of Team Building

7.     Project Management

 

Each of the above models provides onsite training, with the option to use online training to deepen understanding and master the skills. Participants who complete six units of training and pass a written exam will receive a leadership certificate in the specialized area they successfully completed. Those who desire to take more specialized tests will receive the Leadership Certificate in the specialized areas they successfully complete upon enrolling in just one week of additional training.

 

1. AWAKEN THE COMPASSIONATE LEADER IN YOU

 

Description

 

This workshop introduces the concept of compassionate leadership and examines its essential components: character, competence, and compassion.  The discussion draws on the example of Prophet Muhammad (S) and Qur’anic teaching to outline the qualities of compassionate leaders, and outline a strategy to develop those qualities. The workshop includes hands on exercises intended to help participants assess their current leadership capacity and develop a strategy to building future capacity.

 

Learning Objectives

 

·        Introduce the concept of compassionate leadership as the most effective type for leading a community based organization.

·        Identify leadership qualities and traits that are central to the community-based leadership.

·        Understand the motivation to lead and the way to develop the appropriate motivation to lead with compassion

·        Examine how to build leadership capacity, understanding the cycle of leadership growth, and learning the skills to nurture the qualities of compassionate leadership.

2. EMPOWER YOUR COMMUNITY, EMPOWER YOURSELF

 

Description

 

This workshop discusses essential leadership tasks, focusing on improving community structure and practices through setting standards. Participants will learn how to analyze local culture, develop vision for the future, and develop appropriate standards for transformation.

 

Learning Objectives

 

·        Identify essential leadership tasks.

·        Understand the concept of culture and its impact on individual and group behavior.

·        Avoid the self-righteousness of legalism and make compassion the foundation of your community.

·        Learn how to empower your community by raising expectations and compassionate Engagement.

·        Contrast values and standards, and exploring the use of standards to generate the best practices in your organization and the community.

·        Develop vision, goals, and priorities.


3. COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY IN DIVERSE SOCIAL SETTINGS

Description

 

Participants in this workshop will learn how to communicate in ways that would reduce the potential for conflict and increase understanding and cooperation. Participants will learn how to use the “pool of shared meaning” to keep organization and community members motivated and inspired, and will be exposed to strategies on how to turn an adversarial communication into a friendly, and potentially engaging one.

 

Learning Objectives

 

·        Discovering the relationship between understanding and personal experience, and explain the concept of “pool of shared meaning”

·        Examining the elements of communication and the communication process

·        Leaning how compassionate leaders maintain their Cool and focusing on the Message

·        Examining effective ways compassionate leaders use to maintain mutuality and stay open to dialogue

·        Discussing skills leaders need to nurture trust and promote dialogue

·        Learning the importance of, and the skills used for, active listening


4. MANANGE CONFLICT AND EFFECT POSITIVE CHANGE

 

Description

 

Conflict is an intrinsic part of any organization that cares about change and growth and avoids becoming dormant and irrelevant. The real question is not whether to avoid conflict but how to turn differences into a source of power and positive change. The workshop will deal with conflict in structured and constructive ways and introduce participants to conflict resolution techniques.

 

Learning Objectives

 

·        Distinguishing between constructive and disruptive conflicts

·        How compassionate leaders manage their emotions when dealing with conflict

·        Prophetic Approaches to conflict resolution

·        To confront or not to confront: identifying ways to deal with different types of conflict

·        When conflict prevention ends and resolution begins

5. THINK STRATEGICALLY AND ATTAIN NEW HEIGHTS

 

Description

 

Planning is crucial not only for using the human and financial resources efficiently and effectively, but also for developing community culture and building its capacity. The session introduces essential elements of planning and implementation.

 

Learning Objectives

 

·        Exploring essential elements of planning

·        Relating faith and planning and reviewing lessons from Islamic sources

·        Assessing present capacity and analyzing environmental challenges and opportunities

·        Setting a clear vision of the future

·        Establishing priorities and developing strategies

·        Setting the necessary structure for Implementation

6. THE POWER OF TEAM WORK

Description

 

There is mounting evidence that teams augment the capacity of their members by manifold and allow them to achieve goals that they would not have otherwise been able to achieve. The question is how team spirit is realized and what kind of skills should be acquired by individuals to be able to work as a team. This workshop is designed to help participants answer these questions and others, and learn new skills they need to develop team spirit and enhance teamwork.

 

Learning Objectives

 

·        Understand the concepts of team building and team work

·        Examine the essential elements of teamwork

·        Explore the importance of mutual accountability for Collective Failure and Success

·        Learn the moral and relational precondition for good teamwork


 

7. MANAGE DETAILS AND ATTAIN EXCELLENCE

 

Description

 

Paying attention to details is at the heart of translating great ideas and vision to real projects and activities. This requires developing effective ways to identify every task or activity associated with the project or event, ensure that the outcome of these activities meet the highest expectations, and assign them to the right people. The workshop aims at providing leaders with the skills they need to translate their ideas and dreams to actions and well-thought implementation schemes.

·        Examining the relationship between excellence and attention to details

·        Understand the link between planning and implementation

·        Learn the process of project management and advanced scheduling

·        Learn how to control the quality of implementation to match great visions and goals
